From A Fan’s Perspective: Langit Lupa Thoughts (So Far)

Firstly, I will admit that I didn’t care much about the Langit Lupa Tournament when it was announced. I was one of those who are only looking forward to big names or “old gods” in a FlipTop event. While I was aware of the existence of underground battle leagues nationwide, I wasn’t updated with the movement. My friend and fellow fan invited me to watch Grain Assault 17 live, but I refused. Then came the 29th of March 2026 when FlipTop uploaded Jabo vs Boy Sleuth. At that moment, everything changed.

Jabo vs Boy Sleuth wasn’t just a great match; it was also a showcase of undeniable rap skills. Both emcees had magnificent presence, and of course, their material was top-tier! It was the ideal mix of technicality, humor, and overall creativity. There was one winner, but no one really lost. I had such a great time watching this, so my expectations were high on the next uploads.

Just a few days later, FlipTop released Si7ick vs Ivar. It was a lyrical slugfest! They delivered some of the most hard-hitting lines to date, and their intensity never faltered up to the last second. Their reference game also deserves props! Like the first upload, this one was very close! I had to watch it twice to pick a clear winner for me. Jabo vs Si7ick on the next round… WOW!

Next up is Diddle vs Kulas. It was a superb style clash! Kulas brought witty jokes and creative references while Diddle delivered solid metaphors and complex rhyme schemes. While they’re both different in styles, their confidence shined from start to finish. Again, the battle was back-and-forth, and I agree with the result, but the other emcee also deserves respect for a great performance. Another battle was just uploaded minutes ago. I’ll watch it right after I finish this piece!

So, what did the Langit Lupa Tournament teach me? Never EVER underestimate the emcees, especially the lesser-known ones. It made me check out all of the participating leagues in this contest and I have to say that there are indeed plenty of gems in the underground. I won’t say I’m fully knowledgeable about the scene now, but I have watched a few matches online and I’m really enjoying what I’m seeing so far. Hopefully, we can see more emcees be part of FlipTop soon.

The participants in Langit Lupa are not only amazing at rapping; they also bring something new to the table. You may hear influences of veteran rappers from their lines, but it doesn’t sound like they’re copying them, it’s more like doing a tribute while injecting their distinct flavors. I am now looking forward to the quarterfinals, so Anygma, please announce the next event for the quarterfinals already. For those involved in Isabuhay 2026, the pressure is on! Try to top that!

Without a doubt, the future of FlipTop is in very good hands. To anyone still doubting the up-and-comers, don’t let negativity consume you. Give these guys a shot. I promise you will not be disappointed with what you’ll see. So, who’s my pick to win the championship? I’m still unsure because I’m a big fan of them all. I guess I’ll just enjoy the battles and witness the rise of the new generation. Langit Lupa, mag-ingay o!
