The third edition of Unibersikulo took place on the 12th of September 2015 at B-Side in Makati. During this time, B-Side was still up and running, providing a home not just to hip-hop but to the whole local music scene. You are surely missed! The event featured seven battles, two of which were for the semifinals of the 2015 Isabuhay Tournament. Let’s take a trip back to almost a decade ago and see how this affair went down.

With a card that stacked, it was no surprise that the venue was packed. The crowd immediately erupted when Anygma started his opening remarks. Based on the audience reaction, you know it’s already going to be a historic night. Let’s start with the two main events of the evening: Batas vs Shernan and Dello vs Romano (RIP) for the Isabuhay semifinals.

Batas vs Shernan was a classic style clash. The soon to be two-time champ went all in with his complex rhyme schemes and devastating wordplay, metaphors, and punchlines. As for his opponent, the soon to be second most viewed battle emcee in the world showcased his flawless mix of witty humor and clever angles. It was an entertaining bout from start to end, and further elevated the status of the two competitors. Dello vs Romano was another solid, albeit underrated, encounter. While their signature creative humor was still present, the two rappers also took this opportunity to show their more serious, aggressive side. We heard some of their most hard-hitting bars to date, each delivered with enough intensity. Thank you for the memories, Romano!

Abra vs PriceTagg was considered by many to be the battle of the night. Not only was it heated and brutal, it was also a splendid display of top-tier lyricism and presence. You could feel the intensity from both rappers throughout, and they were spitting haymaker after haymaker in every round. It was battle rap at its most ruthless! Sinio vs Flict-G was arguably the most back-and-forth match of the event. Both emcees delivered unforgettable humor and heavy bars while effortlessly oozing with confidence on stage. The result is still being debated today, proving that it was indeed a close fight.

Target vs Apoc was a clash for the pure lyricism fans. While both were equipped with hard-hitting material, they are different in approach. Target was more direct with his bars while Apoc was more technical. In the end, we got a showdown of awe-inspiring rhymes and flawless delivery. Plazma vs Omar Baliw had the potential to be a classic, but unfortunately, Omar choked. Nevertheless, Plazma gave an all-timer performance, which was a huge improvement from his Filipino Conference debut. As for Omar, he may have stepped away from battle rap, but he continued rapping and then went on to become a very successful businessman.

Of course, who could forget the highly entertaining Zaito vs Elbiz? It was a showcase of effective humor mixed with some heavy punchlines. When Zaito is prepared, you’re going to witness a phenomenal performance, and that is what we got at Unibersikulo 3. As for Elbiz, he also gave his 100% percent, and the crowd applauded him. It’s a battle that is still enjoyed by viewers up to now.
