2024 was unforgettable for FlipTop. Let’s take a look back at this historic year.
FlipTop is already 14 years old during this time. While it still has a very strong following, it also garnered a significant amount of vocal detractors. There are a few who predicted its downfall, claiming it will be eventually dethroned by other organizations. The league didn’t let those remarks slow them down. As a matter of fact, it just gave them an opportunity to prove why they are number one in the whole world. Let’s take a look back at 2024.
We’ve witnessed the rise of the new generation of FlipTop emcees with Won Minutes. Three were held in Metro Manila and one in Cebu, and each of them produced many iconic matches and moments. Apart from up-and-comers, we’ve also seen a few inactive veterans make their returns. There were so many talents that were chosen to compete in the big stage that Anygma decided to hold a tournament: the Dos Por Dos2. As always, the lineup was criticized for the lack of “old gods”, but the competing teams proved everyone wrong. Each battle was back-and-forth, and each emcee stepped their pen game and performance up.
2024 will also be remembered for having arguably the most exciting and most unpredictable Isabuhay Tournament. The fans were already hyped when the lineup came out, but when the matches started, it further exceeded expectations. Every emcee not only has a distinct style, but also a chance to becoming the champ. GL vs Vitrum is considered by many as one of the best Isabuhay finals of all time. Both rappers brought their A-game, and in the end, “panalo tayong lahat” (we all won). Congratulations once again to the Isabuhay and Dos Por Dos2 Champions. You all deserved it. Congratulations also to the rest of the competitors. You all did a fantastic job.
When it comes to events, it was certainly a remarkable year for FlIpTop. We saw record-breaking numbers attendance-wise for the majority of the big stage affairs, and the small room setup regained its popularity. FlipTop moved forward without abandoning its roots. 2024 finished off with a huge fifteenth edition of Ahon 15. It was so successful that Anygma and co decided to add a day three on March 29, 2025. For those who’ve attended last year’s events, let us know which is your favorite in the comments section. Feel free to share you stories as well.
Every hater went silent before 2024 ended. FlipTop didn’t need to brag; they just went out and gave us quality battle rap. Their undying love for the culture of hip-hop is the reason why they remain strong, and the supporters knew that. While there will always be doubters, no one can disagree that the league is still number one. Fast forward to the present, the next event will be Bwelta Balentong 12, and it’s already shaping up to be another historic night. We hope you’re still with us on this ride. We’re sure there will be many more surprises in the coming months. FlipTop, make some noise!
