The inaugural Ahon took place on the 15 of May 2010 at Guerilla Radio in Pasig. It was only FlipTop’s third event but the venue was packed! Some of the classic matches that happened here include Target vs Dello, Loonie vs Zaito, and Batas vs Fuego. The English Conference was also still active, with battles like Skarm vs Josh G, Ghandi vs Sev, and Plazma vs Tim. Since then, Ahon became not only an annual affair, but a major one. Think of it as the Philippine battle rap’s version of the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, or WrestleMania.
So, what makes Ahon such a significant occasion? Ahon means ascent in English, and the event was held during the very beginning of FlipTop’s immense popularity. The battles from the previous two events have already gained over a hundred thousand views, and at that time, it was a huge achievement for the scene. Ahon served as a celebration of Philippine hip-hop’s renaissance. By just attending, you’re already part of history!
From 2014 onwards, Ahon became the battleground of the Isabuhay Tournament Finals. Champions were crowned, legacies were cemented, and elite skills were showcased throughout these matchups. Isabuhay has been one of battle rap’s most exciting tourneys, so seeing its culmination live is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience. Who is your pick for champion this year? Since Ahon is a grand event, you can expect a loaded card and plenty of surprises. Lineup-wise, it always gives us a perfect blend of old gods, present-day top emcees, and representatives of the new generation. They all have one thing in common: each one had an incredible year. It’s where the best of the best face off and further elevate their pen game and performance. You will surely witness something spectacular here; something that will make a long-lasting impact in the artform. Ask any fan who have attended live and they would wholeheartedly agree.
A big event means a big crowd. You will definitely meet a lot of likeminded people and make new friends along the way. So, don’t worry if you’re going alone because you will never feel out of place. After all, it’s about showing support to the local talent and the culture itself. We may have different beliefs in others aspects, but here, we’re united through rap. It actually applies to any FlipTop event.
As of now, we only know the date and venue for Ahon 16. It will take place on December 13 and 14, 2025, at The Tent in Las Pinas (the same venue as last year).
