Apart from battle rap, the music side of Philippine hip-hop is on fire now. We’ve already heard plenty of masterpieces this year, and there are plenty more on the way. So after watching all the amazing battles, check out these releases from FlipTop emcees for the month of August. We have singles, music videos, and a full-length album, all of which are making waves now. Get your playlists ready and let’s begin…
In the “Ambag” song and music video, Gloc-9 starts off by showing appreciation for his fans and the artists he has influenced. It was then followed by the members of legendary group Shockra expressing their gratitude to Gloc-9 for paving the way for them. For those who don’t know, FlipTop emcees Flict-G, Crazymix, Abbadon, Numerhus, and Smugglaz are part of Shockra. The rappers showcased their trademark unpredictable flow and razor sharp lyricism.
Tha Green House - Backyard Biznez
Frooz and the rest of Tha Green House have finally released their much-awaited full-length album titled “Backyard Biznez”. The Binangonan representatives stayed true to the street-style rhymes and West Coast-inspired instrumentals, and the result is a future classic record. “Backyard Biznez” is the perfect mix of club bangers, hardcore tracks, and laidback vibes.
Apoc teams up with Trish, the vocalist of The Bloody Countess and Meco, for the track “Firefly”. Here, they talk about inner struggles and how they overcame it. It’s an awe-inspiring combination of singing and rapping, and Apoc’s beat adds more impact to the overall song. The chemistry between the two artists shines bright throughout.
Sayadd - Bumalik na ang Bulong (Smoki Remix)
After the success of his solo EP, Sayadd returns with a remix of his song “Bumalik na ang Bulong”, which was originally released in Illustrado’s “Hanggang Kamatayan: Ngayon” album. The FlipTop veteran uses his trademark complex imagery, wide vocabulary, and ominous voice as he discusses the realities of life on Moki McFly’s slower and gloomier, but equally astounding beat.
Loonie feat. Arthur Nery - Palaisipan
Loonie joins forces with singer Arthur Nery for “Palaisipan”. The FlipTop OG and 2016 Isabuhay Champion vividly tells a story about unrequited love with his always-impressive rhyme schemes and awe-inspiring metaphors. Arthur Nery’s voice in the hook is haunting and beautiful at the same time, and Yung Bawal’s laidback beat gives the perfect balance to the song.
Karisma - BLUES
Karisma has finally released the official music video for his 2024 banger “BLUES”, which he also directed. He proudly represents his clique while showcasing his impeccable flow and hard-hitting rhymes. The video features impressive posse and graffiti shots from Regor Nova, and Hoodboy Visuals’ editing is smooth from start to finish.
