Zoning 18 and 19 made an significant impact. Here’s how.
History was made on the 24th and 31st of May 2025 at Takeover Lounge in Katipunan. It was the two-day Zoning event. While the venue wasn’t as big as the usual FlipTop spots, it was still packed, and the crowd was hyped from beginning to end. So what exactly made Zoning 18 and 19 special? For those who weren’t able to attend, let us tell you all why…
When the posters were released online, the true fans loved it. However, it also attracted a significant amount of doubters. They complained about the lack of “old gods” or big names and the absence of Isabuhay battles. The events proceeded nonetheless, and ultimately silenced all the critics. At Zoning 18, we saw Ruffian face off against JDee in what many consider now a clear battle of the year contender. The match wasn’t just a showcase of top-tier writing; it was also a showcase of elite freestyle skills, stage presence, and delivery. It was another case of “panalo tayong lahat” for the live and online audience. Other well-received matches include Caspher vs CRhyme, Fernie vs Jamy Sykes, Blizzard vs Marichu, BLZR vs Antonym, Jawz vs Lord Manuel, and many more.
Zoning 18 and 19 also gave us plenty of individual breakthrough performances. Emcees such as Sickreto, Dave Denver, Sensei, Pamoso, and Shaboy proved why they deserve to represent the new generation of the league. CNine is another veteran in the lineup, and he showed us why he remains a top emcee. There were a few rappers who stumbled in their rounds, but we’re sure it was a huge learning experience for them. Keep going, guys! For those who’ve seen all the battles, whether live or online, which is your favorite? Also, who gave the best performance for you? Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts in the comments section.
FlipTop recent affairs took place mostly at big venues, which is why the small room atmosphere at Zoning 18 and 19 was special for the fans. It was like being at an event of the league during its early years. Everyone was focused on the matches and because of the intimate set up, the bars hit harder and you could appreciate the metaphors and references even more. No matter where you are at Takeover Lounge, the verses are loud and clear. Ask anyone who’ve watched live and they will agree that FlipTop should do more small room events. It’s something every fan should experience.
The next Zoning event will once again be a two-day occasion, and this time it will be back to back. 20 will be held on October 24 while 21 will happen on the next day. As for the lineup, venue, and other information, we just have to wait. Make sure you follow FlipTop’s Facebook page and this site to stay updated. One thing we know so far: it’s a perfect mix of established names and up-and-comers, and there’s a huge chance we’ll witness even more battle of the year contenders. Don’t miss it!
