May was indeed another amazing month for the local hip-hop scene. Apart from solid battles, events, and singles, we’ve also witnessed some great music videos. So, if you’re not updated with the latest releases, don’t worry. We got you. Here are six MVs that came out last month listed in no particular order. It’s a diverse lineup, so there’s certainly something for you. Let us begin!
Karisma - "DOOH"
He may not have any upcoming battles for now, but Karisma is still busy making music. The video for his latest single “DOOH”, which was brilliantly shot and directed by OXON, dropped on the 22nd of May. He chose to feature his hood and his homies, proving that despite his massive success, he stays loyal to the streets.
Slockone - "ICY ROLL"
SlockOne has an upcoming Isabuhay quarterfinals battle, but that didn’t stop him from making this club banger. “ICY ROLL” is his new song, with Yuki Tran Wu and Angelo Padilla handling the visuals. In the video, while spitting bar after bar, SlockOne and his homies flex their cars, chains, and gear, signifying the result of their hard work and dedication.
Jawz - "Manalo Na'ko"
When he’s not in the battle arena, he’s giving us some of the catchiest songs in local hip-hop. On the 29th of May, Jawz surprised us all with release of his brand-new song “Manalo Na’ko”. His combination of singing and rapping stays flawless. The visualizer was made by AK Visuals, and it’s so impressive it’s up there with international animated films.
Sun Valley Crew - "Weight"
The legendary 90s group Sun Valley Crew is back with a new banger titled “Weight”. For the music video, Juss Rye handled the directing and editing duties, along with the song’s hard-hitting boom bap production. We see the veteran emcees spitting fire on an interrogation table, successfully capturing the overall grimy mood of the track. This is for the fans of hardcore hip-hop!
O SIDE MAFIA & BRGR - "WE OUSSIDE"
After over a year, O SIDE MAFIA teams up once again with BRGR for the potential club hit “WE OUSSIDE”. The official music video is directed and edited by NAKI and y.stacey, and sees the group dropping bars while roaming around Manila with their clique. These scenes are O SIDE’s way of saying they still run these streets!
Kjah feat. Tatz Maven - "Sangkaterba"
Directed by the underrated legend Gon Borela, the music video for KJah and Tatz Maven’s “Sangkaterba” is what we like to call “absolute cinema”. The battle scenes in the jungle and the cinematography are just like the track’s lyrics and production: it’s powerful from beginning to end. “Sangkaterba” is from KJah’s critically-acclaimed 2023 album “Nakasalalay sa Letra”.
